As College Librarian Gabriel is responsible for the management and development of the libraries which are at the heart of the college's academic life, including the College's outstanding Special Collections of manuscripts and rare books.  The College Librarian is also responsible for ensuring that services to users are maintained and delivered. 


Gabriel was Assistant Director of Library Services (Special Collections) at the University of St Andrews before moving to Christ Church.  At St Andrews she had responsibility for the management and strategic direction of the University's Special Collections of manuscript, archive, photographic and rare books.  She has also worked as Head of Collections at Durham Cathedral, where she had oversight of the library collections, dating from the 6th century, and museum objects. She also worked at Lambeth Palace Library, where she had particular responsibility for reader services and all aspects of work relating to the Library’s printed book collections, which includes a 1455 Gutenberg Bible, the earliest book printed in Europe using movable type. 


Gabriel holds an MA in Modern History from the University of Oxford and an MA in Library and Information Studies from University College London.
