Christ Church Cathedral announces the appointment of Richard Moore as Sub-Organist

Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Moore as Sub-Organist.

Richard has been Sub Organist at Guildford Cathedral since 2017, and before that held posts as Assistant Organist at Winchester Cathedral, and at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. He is a former organ scholar of St Paul’s Cathedral, and St John’s College, Oxford, where he read music. He also studied at the Royal College of Music, graduating with distinction, and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Richard has performance interests in Bach and Reger, and has contributed to the Organists' Review. His research into the organ music of Peter Racine Fricker has been published by the Journal of the Royal College of Organists, and his work on how mid-20th century organ building is affected by, and affects, the culture surrounding it, has been presented by the Journal of the British Institute of Organ Studies.

Steven Grahl, Organist of Christ Church said: ‘I am delighted that Richard has accepted our offer to become the new Sub-Organist at Christ Church. He is an exceptional organist, and will bring his creative energy as a choir trainer and teacher. He has demonstrated an impressive commitment to the training of young organists, and his intellectual acuity and collegiality are well known.’

Richard says: ‘I am thrilled to be joining the Cathedral community at Christ Church to take up the role of Sub-Organist after Easter this year, working as part of the renowned musical team to articulate worship in the Cathedral’s daily services. Whilst I am sorry to be leaving Guildford Cathedral after nearly six years, I am excited for the prospects that the future holds, and to contribute to the musical life of Christ Church.’

Richard will begin his work at Christ Church in mid-April 2023.
