Cathedral services and concerts for Advent and Christmas

Christ Church Cathedral has released details of its programme of special services and concerts for Advent and Christmas.

As people look to celebrate Christmas following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cathedral is anticipating high numbers attending services this year. No Covid-19 restrictions are in place and members of the public joining the Cathedral for Advent and Christmas can enjoy and experience the full beauty of choral worship.

The Cathedral will be beginning its Advent journey on Saturday 26 November at 6pm with the Cathedral Advent Carol Service with the Cathedral Choir. The Cathedral will be hosting a second Advent Carol Service with Frideswide Voices and Clerks on Wednesday 30 November at 6pm. These two services are wonderful ways to engage with season of Advent with the Cathedral Choirs singing some breathtakingly beautiful music.

On Saturday 10 December at 8pm, the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church will be giving a special Christmas concert, On Christmas Night. At this concert the Cathedral Singers will portray the joy and excitement of Christmas Night with carols old and new, both for choir and audience. Tickets for this concert can be purchased from ticketsoxford.com

All Advent and Christmas services at the Cathedral are free to attend, however due to high demand, for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, you will need to book a free-ticket. The Cathedral is holding three Nine Lessons and Carols services this year:

A number of services, including the Nine Lessons and Carols Service on Christmas Eve, will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel. This channel has attracted a global following and regularly sees thousands of people join the Cathedral in worship digitally.

On Christmas Eve, our service for children and families, Journey to Bethlehem, will take place at 10.30am, where families will be able to explore the Cathedral and travel alongside Mary and Joseph in this fun and interactive service. Other popular services and events include Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve with the Frideswide Voices, and the 11am Chorial Eucharist on Christmas Day with the Cathedral Choir.

Details of Advent and Christmas services taking place at the Cathedral can be found on the Christmas 2022 webpage.
