The Henry Aldrich Project

The Henry Aldrich Choral Edition Project is an ongoing programme of research, providing for the first time, modern performing choral scores of original choral works by Henry Aldrich made available by download for choral music scholars and performers. In addition to choral scores, Henry Aldrich: Sacred Choral Works  is a CD recording now available for public release, and available through Convivium Records and Naxos Music Library.
Aldrich became Dean of Christ Church on 4 April 1689, succeeding the Catholic John Massey following his abrupt departure from Oxford the previous November. In addition to his twenty-one years as Dean, and as Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1692 to 1695, Aldrich was a distinguished logician, skilled architect, competent musician, and composer of predominantly sacred music. During the 1690s, against a backdrop of turbulent political times for Christ Church, Aldrich was closely involved with the cathedral music programme, both as a singing man and composer.
