Christ Church Cathedral, in partnership with Oxford Jewish Centre and the Museum of Oxford, will hold a special event for Teachers and others who wish to learn more and commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2019.

9.30am-10.30 am Talk 1 by Sarah Montagu (OJC) and a visit to the Oxford Jewish Congregation’s Synagogue.

10.30am-11.30am A Heritage walk to Christ Church, along part of the Jewish quarter trail.

11.30-11.45 Coffee at Town Hall

11.45-12.30  Tour 1 of the Town Hall’s Medieval Jewish cellars. The Town hall is built upon the home of David, Oxford’s most famous Medieval Jew. St Aldates used to be called Great Jewry Street. The cellar of the Town Hall features a late medieval crypt from the 14th or 15th century. Find out more about what this rarely-seen cellar was used for and its links to the Jewish quarter of medieval Oxford.

11.45-12.30 Oxford Racism Exhibition. At the Town hall, a visit to “Never Again”. This annual exhibition helps to bring key HMD issues up to date with current prejudices.

12.30-1.30 pm Lunch at Christ Church in the McKenna Room

1.30-2.15 pm Talk 2 by Martin Gorick (Archdeacon of Oxford) about the history of the Jewish community in Oxford

2.15 -3pm Talk 3 by Jackie Holderness, Education Officer at Christ Church Cathedral, ‘Torn from Home’ the CCJ WMD theme for 2019

3.00- 3.15pm Tea

3.15-3.45 pm A time for contemplation in the Cathedral

3.45 pm Depart
