Undergraduate Accommodation
Christ Church undergraduate students may live in College accommodation throughout their studies in Oxford, which means that they pay for term-time accommodation and are never obliged to sign 12-month rental contracts at private sector market rates. If you do need to stay in Oxford out of term-time, for example in order to use the library while preparing for upcoming exams, you can apply for a vacation residence grant to help cover the cost of College accommodation (up to 28 days per year for all undergraduate students in 2021/22; up to 10 days per year for new students joining Christ Church from Michaelmas term 2022). Further information and eligibility criteria are included in the Blue Book.
Depending on household income, some students benefit from a reduction of 50% or 25% on accommodation costs and on the ‘season ticket’ for college dinners. For more information, please see the Undergraduate Financial Support and Assistance page.
Graduate Accommodation
For information about the different types of graduate accommodation available, please view this page.
Room Licence and Student Possessions Insurance
The room licence agreement between Christ Church and Junior Members can be viewed here.
All students at Christ Church are covered by a student possessions insurance policy, administered through Endsleigh Insurance Services.
Laundry Facilities
Laundry facilities are provided in launderettes situated in Blue Boar Quad, Peckwater 8 basement, Meadow 4 basement, the Liddell Building, St Aldate’s Quad 5, and the basement in 117 St Aldate’s. Instructions on how to set up and use the machines are available on this website: https://www.circuit.co.uk/how-to-use-videos/. Users are asked to treat the machines with care and to use them in accordance with the instructions provided - this information can be found in each launderette. Electric irons are also provided in laundry rooms.
Meal Booking System
In order to eat dinner in Hall, you must book by 10am, 48 hours in advance, regardless of whether or not you are in the season ticket meal plan. Meals can be block-booked in advance and you will also be able to see who else is booked in. Please note that there will be no reduction on the season ticket charge if you do not book or if you do not turn up.
The system is easy to use: you can log on to the Meal Booking System here: https://topup.chch.ox.ac.uk
There are four dietary options for meals available:
- Flexitarian (meat or fish)
- Vegetarian
- Vegan
- My Special Diet (any special diets must have been previously discussed with the Hall Managers – please go and see them in person as soon as possible if you have a special diet).
There are two sittings for dinner:
- Informal self-service: doors open at 1800 hrs and close at 1820 hrs at the latest
- Formal served: doors open at 1900 hrs and diners must be seated by 1920 hrs at the latest (gowns to be worn).
Please note that late arrivals will not be granted access to Hall, so please be prompt.
All undergraduates living on the main site, SAB or SAQ 1 and 7 will automatically be enrolled in the season ticket meal plan and will be charged on battels. Those not on the season ticket can use the system to book occasional dinners, which will be charged at the more expensive rate of £4.76 per head.
Guests: the number of guests will be capped at two per person and there will be a maximum number according to capacity. Guests should be booked in using the Meal Booking System by 10am, 48 hours in advance. Guests will be charged at the higher rate of £11.01 per head.
Breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch are ‘pay as you go’ by contactless card (no cash) and can be taken in Hall or as a take-away; dinner cannot be provided as a take-away. Please refer to the Blue Book for details of meal times.
Any queries may be emailed to hallmanager@chch.ox.ac.uk. If you are not in the meal season ticket and would like to be, please email: battels@chch.ox.ac.uk.
