Christ Church Geography Study Day

Christ Church is delighted to be hosting another Geography Study Day on Thursday 11 May 2023, following our successful Geography initiatives in Spring 2022.

What are we offering?

The day will include an introduction to Physical and Human Geography at Oxford, taster sessions in these main strands of the course, as well as a workshop on the admissions test for Geography. The participants will have a chance to meet students who study Geography at Oxford, have lunch in the Christ Church Hall, and go on a tour of the college. The event will be free of charge and lunch will be provided. We would not want the cost of travelling to Oxford to prevent students from participating and are able to offer support with travel costs to UK students who have been in care, are young carers, have been eligible for free school meals, or who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Here is a provisional timetable for the day:

10.00 – 10.30    Arrival at Christ Church and registration
10.30 – 11.00    Welcome and Introduction to Geography at Oxford
11.00 – 11.15    Q&A with tutors
11.15 – 12.00    Academic taster session 1
12.00 – 1.00    Lunch
1.00 – 1.45    Academic taster session 2
1.45 – 2.15    Q&A with current students
2.15 – 3.00    Tour of Christ Church with current students
3.00 – 3.30    Admissions test workshop
3.30 – 3.45    Closing remarks

There are so many amazing things about Geography - too many to list - however, the main selling point for me was the course structure; first year is super broad so you really get to dabble into lots of topics across both Human and Physical. This sets you up nicely for the final two years when you really get to specialise in what interests you the most, making the tutorials super engaging and interesting when it comes to speaking about a topic you’re so passionate about. Aside from the academics, the Geography cohort feels like a community with usually only around 80 students across the University, all of whom you get to go on several field trips with throughout your three years!
